HP Laptop cable problem?

My HP laptop has a power problem. The screen brightness changes often, which I think is due to a cable issue, as when I wiggle the power cable just where it's plugged into the computer, the screen gets brighter again. Now it has started hibernating all the time too, presumably to save 'battery life' even though it is plugged in. I rang the shop (John Lewis), who said that it was probably a problem with the socket inside the laptop, and would be expensive to fix and thus better to buy a new one (not they're not on comission!) How can I tell if it is the cable or socket causing the problem. A new cable from HP is around 拢85, is there a cheaper way of repairing it? (UK related answers please.)HP Laptop cable problem?
if your feeling confident, open the laptop up. the plug on the laptop has probably workrd loose. solder it back onto the board. it may just need crimped back to gether with a pair of pliers. an electronic repair guy should fix it for about 拢30HP Laptop cable problem?
Check the output voltage of the power cable with a volt meter (make sure you have the meter on the right setting first). Wiggle the cable around as you check it. If the voltage fluctuates, then you have a problem in your charger / cable. If it stays steady, then the problem is with the plug on your laptop.HP Laptop cable problem?
It could always be the battery but probably not, try someone else's cable if you can. It does sound like its the socket. Try PC world they may be able to help with it.HP Laptop cable problem?
The screen dims when it's on battery power to extend battery life. I'd first see if I could find someone with a similar model laptop and see if the problem still exists using their power cord. I've had the same problem before and had to get a new power cord. You can probably find a compatible cord cheaper online.HP Laptop cable problem?
that is a normality for hp . the computer socket isn`t properly soldered . I just took my daughters apart and resoldered hers . It took about an hour but the majority of the time was removing and installing all the screws.
